MIND Education

Students, the future protagonists of MIND: they have the opportunity to co-design the new neighbourhood through contests and workshops. An experience that has already involved over 7,000 youths from primary schools to universities.

MIND Education is the programme promoted by the district’s main partners (Arexpo, Lendlease, Human Technopole, Fondazione Triulza, IRCCS Galeazzi and Università Statale di Milano) to involve students in the creation of innovative and original projects for MIND. In 2022 the project reached its fifth edition..

MIND addresses the future protagonists of the district, the youngest citizens, and involves them in the co-design of this new district of the city. The activity is of strategic relevance: the collaboration of students from different grades turns them into active participants in the development of MIND. It also helps the district in building a shared, creative vision capable of incorporating the ideas of the young people who will then be the authentic “inhabitants” of the area.

In the first five years, MIND Education involved more than seven thousand students from primary schools to universities.

The fifth edition of the programme running through 2022 features the A City in MIND – Il Parco del Cibo e della Salute: girls and boys from primary and secondary schools will have to submit their projects for one of the district’s main green areas, the Parco del Cibo e della Salute. The best projects will receive prizes worth 9,000 euros for the students of the winning schools to purchase services and equipment for educational and lab activities.

The second activity, Meet Up, includes initiatives for high school students in Lombardy, especially workshops on cross-disciplinary skills at MIND and a visit to the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre at Ispra.

For universities, MIND Education has launched two Call 4 Ideas, two “invitations to ideate” addressed to university students, recent graduates and Ph.D. students from all over Italy and dedicated to two themes. The first call aims to collect proposals and ideas for using temporary spaces as a resource for designing a sustainable and inclusive future for cities. The second call, promoted jointly with Federated Innovation and Human Technopole, will focus on data science. The winning projects will receive a total of 20,000 euros in prizes.
