Raffaela Fede
Medical Director
AstraZeneca Italia
What do you do?
I am the Medical Director of AstraZeneca Italy, and together with my team, I am responsible for ensuring the highest quality of clinical research in our country. We aim to develop therapeutic solutions that bring significant improvements to the lives of patients and society, thanks to the results of our studies, innovative health projects and partnerships with the scientific community.
What are the goals of your commitment?
Our ambition is to expand the boundaries of science to redefine clinical practice and significantly improve the lives of patients significantly. We believe in research as a fundamental value of the Italian economic and social system. We are strongly committed to facilitating access to global research opportunities for Italian researchers, creating a network that can simplify research – in terms of process, access, and resource allocation – and identifying centres of excellence to be organised in research-intensive areas and turn them into innovation incubators.
What role does innovation play in your job?
Innovation is an integral part of what the medical director department does at AstraZeneca. It’s not just about treatments but how we generate new data, build digital health projects and intend to work with all stakeholders in the system to improve care pathways. With the new European regulation on clinical trials, we will also have the opportunity to further innovate in the approval and enrollment of clinical trials as a relentless driver of research in our country.
A dream come true for every scientist, doctor, researcher and innovator who enters this ecosystem
What added value have you received or would you like to receive from your presence in MIND?
MIND is, and will increasingly be, a hub with potential that goes well beyond the district. The possibility of leveraging an ecosystem like MIND’s can only have beneficial results for our country, but especially for patients.
How do you imagine the future of MIND?
A “dream come true” for every scientist, doctor, researcher and innovator who enters this ecosystem. A place where they have access to quality platforms and data and can promote initiatives capable of generating short-term value, maximising the opportunities (not only) for the partnership that the district offers.
